Giclée comes from the French word by the same name, and it is a feminine noun that means, "a spray or a squirt of liquid". The term, "giclée print", connotes an up-grade in the technology of printmaking. Paintings are digitally scanned with special equipment and then can be printed utilizing archival inks onto various substrates, including canvas. Everything used in the process of producing a giclée is more costly than in the production of a lithographic reproduction, and for this reason they are more expensive for the artist and art connoisseur. The old saying, "You get what you pay for", is applicable here. Currently, this technology more accurately reproduces the original artwork than does any other process, resulting in beautifully reproduced pieces of art every time. I insist on in-put during the process and personnally approve each new giclée to insure that it looks as identical to the original as possible.

This is a giclée of the Great Blue Heron. In North Carolina, we are used to seeing this majestic bird on the banks of canals, sluices, ponds, lakes, and rivers where it is with us year-round. |

Wildlife fascinates me, so it is only natural that I would want to paint zebras. With their unique and exquisite design elements, they are an artist's dream. I grouped them in order to exaggerate the design elements of their elaborate coats, among other reasons. This painting won the, "People's Choice Award", in a Wilmington Artist Association Show. |

After going to the local Farmer's Market and buying an assortment of flowers, I arranged them in an antique Spatterware pitcher that had belonged to my parents. I began to paint the still-life before me in oils, but felt that something was still missing. Since orange is the compliment of blue, I decided to add the big Sunflower with its' deep yellow and then kept going with the smaller ones until I was satisfied. I wanted something living in the painting, so I added the butterfly. Putting in the scissors and one of my old gardener's gloves was a natural consequence to complete the composition. |

This giclée is from an original oil painting. I bought a mixed assortment of flowers from our local Farmer's Market, and arranged them in an antique Spatterware pitcher that belonged to my parents. The butterfly was an added touch, but one I really liked, so I decided to make it the focal point of this picture. |
